Social media is a platform in which we can share, talk and chat with known and unknown person using internet via technologies that promote engagement and collaboration.
What is social media addiction?
· Social media addiction is a phrase sometimes used to refer someone who is spending too much of time using wats app, snap chat, Facebook, Instagram and other social platforms. It interferes with other aspects of daily life.
· Addiction usually refers to compulsive behavior that leads to negative effects. In most addiction, people feel compelled to do certain activities so often that they become a harmful habit, which then interferes with other important activities such as work or school.
Disadvantages of social media addiction on social life
· It can be a hurdle between social and personal relationships.
· It enables individuals to commit crimes online.
· It will affect your personal life and studies.
· I will urge to do phone sex on social media.
· It can hamper the confidence of an individual in the real world.
Health issues caused by social media
Sleep: Using a cell phone, laptop or Ipad at late night can seriously mess with your sleep patterns and habits. Late night use is also associated with sleep depressive symptoms.
Isolation: Excessive technology use can lead to feelings of isolation or the eventual of isolation of a person due to so much time spent with technology as opposed to making real connections of human friends.
Eating disorder: It causes an imbalance of diet and irregular eating habits.
Stress: A Swedish study found that participants who felt the need to have their cell phones constantly accessible were more likely to report depressive mental problems.
Social media addiction on workplace/Education
· Business productivity can decrease due to a lack of motivation to work.
· Employer and Employee relationships can be affected by reducing the interest of employees at work.
· Students who get involved in activities on social media sites while studying result in the reduction in their focus of attention. This causes a reduction in their academic performance, and concentration to study well.
Conclusion
· There is nothing wrong with being obsessed with interacting with other humans. Just don’t lose sight of the real world around you.
